Automation of oil pipeline dispatching, control, and telemetry solutions
Cooperation with AK Transnefteprodukt OJSC to introduce solution for automation of oil pipeline dispatching, control, and telemetry solutions
Location: Leningradskaya oblast, Russia
Order date: 2004
Completion: 2008
Industry: Oil&Gas
Executive Summary
AK Transnefteprodukt OJSC is a subsidiary company of Transneft Oil Transporting JSC, mainly engaged in oil transportation and storage. Transnefteprodukt references high-quality services of EleSy Company, its solid experience in designing, installation, and commissioning of similar systems.
In 2004, Transnefteprodukt selected EleSy to provide a turnkey automation solution for the trunk pipeline and marine transfer terminal in the western part of Gulf of Finland. EleSy was selected in a competitive search process that included some of the most notable providers.
The project is aimed to construct the pipeline to export diesel fuel to Western and Northern European countries.
Challenges and Scope of Work
Transnefteprodukt was expected to implement dispatching and telemetry system for the oil product pipeline with the capacity of up to 17 million ton a year being 1,056 km in length.
Prior to construction, EleSy was requested to design the following:
Telemetry system for linear and station parts of oil product pipeline
- Dispatcher system for trunk oil product pipeline
- Automatic fire-extinguishing system
Solutions
Oil pipeline status is monitored by EleSy's integrated telecontrol solution including 108 RTUs based on ELSY-TM PLCs that interrogate sensors and secondary converters, process the signals by the specified algorithms, generate control actions, monitor process parameters, and provide software diagnostics.
Oil pipeline dispatcher system supports more than 56,000 data points. EleSy deployed unified solutions on dataware and mnemonic diagram displaying providing safe and reliable pipeline operation.
Advantages
IEC TCP protocol was applied in telecontrol channels for the first time ensuring effective interrogation of telecontrol PLCs and issuing control actions from all level control stations to the dedicated IP addresses.
SNMP protocol allows transferring static data from telecontrol PLCs to control stations.
NTP protocol provides simultaneous synchronization of PLCs with a dedicated server.
Web interface allows downloading all the automatic system data and mnemonic diagrams to the main and standby control stations.
Results
Two years of Kstovo-Yaroslavl-Kirishi-Primorsk pipeline successful operation with the deployed solutions from EleSy Company.
